Wayfinder’s Teen Leadership Institute

This two month-long leadership institute provides teens with the essential skills and character building to effectively mentor youth.  Participants who complete the training will receive a Wayfinder’s Leadership Skills Certification and training in hands-only CPR.

Upon completion of the Leadership Institute, students can opt to engage in a community service practicum at the Shames JCC or with Wayfinders (Nature guided, youth mentorship program). Students will have check-ins with an on-site supervisor, receive one-on-one mentoring, and community service hours.

Supported Community Service Practicum

  • Program Overview

    Teens enrolled in the Wayfinder’s Teen Leadership Institute may apply their skills and serve the community by volunteering with the Shames JCC (after-school youth program) or Wayfinders (nature-connection and social emotional learning program).

    During their community service hours, participants will be supported by seasoned School Counselors and skilled mentors in personalized 1:1 check-ins with a member of the Wayfinders leadership team. Participants must also be enrolled in the Wayfinder’s Teen Leadership Institute.

  • Hours

    We will customize the community service experience based on the desired number of community service hours the participant is seeking.

    A schedule will be developed by mutual agreement of the teen and the selected organization.

    All community service hours will be documented and approved by the JCC or Wayfinders.

    Teens interested in participating in the mentor-supported community service practicum, please contact wayfindersonthehudson@gmail.com. We will customize the experience based on the desired number of service hours. Cost is determined by the length of the community service experience and the number of mentoring hours recommended.
